In the meeting, all the federal students’ organizations expressed deep anguish over the behavior of Itanagar police lead by SDPO. “AAPSU President went to the police station to approach them after police arrested some AAPSU activists. Everybody has right to express their voice and it is not a crime. However, police physically assaulted him which is not acceptable at all. We term the act as ‘murder of democracy.’ Our fight against injustice will continue till justice is delivered,” AAPSU stated in a release. All East Kameng Students’ Union demanded termination of officials involved in the act.
All the organizations present asked for unconditional release of AAPSU president from the judicial custody and vowed that they will support the movement of AAPSU. All Tagin Students’ Union opined that bandh call should be launched statewide to protest the police handling of president AAPSU. Meanwhile, AAPSU temporarily suspended its 24hrs bandh call to let public be aware of their movement. AAPSU is going to hold protest rally on 27th June from Akashdeep market to the official bungalow of home minister.

In a press communiqué, the AAPYO president Biri Joy stated that the manhandling of state’s apex students’ union president is an inhumane act to silence the voice of students’ community of the state. Anti Narcotics Day observed
TEZU, June 26: Anti Narcotics Day was observed at Tezu with its Deputy Commissioner Dr. B M Mishra administering a pledge to eradicate the menace of opium and drugs from Lohit district at Jubilee Ground, today. Students from Tezu Government schools also took out a procession against opium and drugs menace in society.
While administering the Pledge the Deputy Commissioner advocated for a drug free society. In a meeting earlier he encouraged participation of students as they can convey messages to their families and friends. Their participation is crucial not only to instill awareness among them but students are the best carrier of messages to the society, he said.
He informed that district administration is planning to prepare a road map for Eradication of Opium and alternative crop to save Lohit district from opium and drug abuse.
Lohit is one of the most drug and opium affected district in the State. Opium cultivation and opium addiction in the district is increasing on an alarmingly rate.
Various measures like destroying the illicit cultivation have been taken out by the District Administration with the help of police personnel. Prohibitory orders have also been carried out from time to time declaring cultivation/use/sale etc of opium and drugs as illegal and punishable under rule of law. Awareness meetings and programmes are also being carried out from time to time.
Anti Narcotic Day celebration is an initiative to save this area from Opium menace and make each and every house aware of its ill effects as well as its adverse affect to the society.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed today at the Reserve Police Recreation Hall, Pasighat.
Speaking on the occasion, Incharge SP Tab Techi said the drug trafficking, once viewed largely as a social and criminal problem, has become a major threat to the health and security of people and state in recent years. Informing that his department is working tirelessly to eradicate the drug menace, he said the real criminals are the drug traffickers. Legislator inspects ground situation of Deopani & Simari hydel stations

ROING, June 26: To improve the failing power scenario in Roing Township and adjoining villages, Parliamentary Secretary for Horticulture and local legislator Mutchu Mithi today visited the local hydel stations of Deopani and Simari. The visit aimed to improve the power generation locally sought to revive all the hydel power stations.
"The power supply from Assam grid has been erratic for last one month causing much discomfort to the people," said Mutchu. "So we are looking for solutions through local hydel stations.”

However, these three hydel stations have been unable to run to its maximum capacity.

To understand the ground problems, the legislator took the survey of 2.7 km of Deopani water channel sourced from Eze River that feeds the Deopani hydel Phase I and II for power generation. Since the township lacks drinking water source, the same water channel is used for supply of drinking water as well. This has aggravated the problem of power supply, feels the department official.
"Since we have to continuously release water for drinking, we are unable to store water in the tank for uninterrupted power generation," informed Oseng Apum, Assistant Engineer (Hydropower, Civil). "Only one turbine is operational, and rest lying unused for lack of required amount of water flow."
The department officials informed that the quantity of water was also affected by silt deposits in the water channel. They felt that if the silt was cleaned then water flow could be improved to produce adequate power.
However, cleaning the silt deposits along the 2.7 km long water channel didn't appear easy. "We lack manpower to clean the silt deposits in one go," informed Mure Linggi, Assistant Engineer, PHED.

Further, Mutchu visited the intake point of water channel. Once a concrete structure, the intake point was damaged by the monsoon floods of 2004. Since then the water diversion site serving as intake point is being temporarily managed by loose structures of boulders.
In 2010, a semi permanent structure was attempted, informed the department officials. But it was washed away by flood waters. The officials informed that since the site has high siltation and seepage rate, a permanent structure would always be unstable, which also has high probability of getting damaged by flood water.
The legislator requested the department to arrive at best solutions for a permanent structure as intake source, and asked for estimate to be prepared.
Earlier, the legislator also visited the Simari hydel site where he visited the damaged intake source in Aba River, and took stock of damaged water channels.

ITANAGAR, June 26: Continuing its pursuit for justice, a team of Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples’ Forum (CCLAPF) led by its Chairman Takam Dari Sojik today met the newly appointed Parliamentary Secretary (Land Management) Techi Kaso and the Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Mige Kamki separately.
According to CCLAPF release, Kaso gave a patient hearing to their grievances and assured to look into the matter appropriately. But before initiating any move from his side, Keso stated that he will first seek the views and suggestions on the matter from his department officials, the release said.
While interacting with DC Mige Kamki, the Forum reminded him about the resolution passed on 13/02/2014 by the government constituted high level Committee to immediately halt the ongoing unauthorized constructions and eviction processes till it submit` its final report to the government. The Forum requested him to honour the said resolution till the government is able to come out with some logical and acceptable solution to the vexed land occupation and allotment imbroglio in Capital Complex.

End the stand off
The standoff between All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) and state government is causing trouble to the ordinary citizens of capital. AAPSU had submitted 7 point memorandum to the state government which include early release of stipends, uninterrupted supply of drinking water, power and white paper on financial situation of state. Union observed capital bandh yesterday alleging government of not responding to their demands. Things took ugly turn yesterday when clashes broke out between police and AAPSU activists. AAPSU President received injury as a result of the clash. Since then war of words has broken out between AAPSU and government over the incident.
Home minister Tanga Byaling alleged AAPSU activist’s of burning down vehicles by forcefully taking them out from garages and parking areas. He also rebuffed the demands made by union stating that they are not at all valid. Today government spokesperson Bamang Felix stated that AAPSU’s bandh during such peak hours of schools/colleges/universities admissions has hampered students apart from affecting the common people and business establishments. On the other hand AAPSU has threatened to launch state wide bandh if their demands are not fulfilled. It looks like both the warring party is not ready to back off from their stand at this juncture. This confrontation if not controlled now many snowball into major crisis in days to come. In such situation ordinary citizens will be the sufferers. State government should take initiative and start dialogue process with AAPSU to diffuse the tension. At a time when students and parents are busy in college and school admission, any further confrontation between AAPSU and government will have devastating effect.

Waiting for the actual step
Dear Editor,
About one month ago there was a report in the news paper that the prices of local commodities like cold drinks, vegetables, chicken, fish, pork, mutton will be fixed and regulated by the District Administration with the help of legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Department.
Being a consumer, I am eagerly waiting to see the light of the day not as a mere statement on the paper but the actual step & action for it to be implemented. Who are responsible and accountable for the superfluous price rise? After all, at the end of the day, the commoners are the ultimate sufferer!
Seems the Administration is totally influenced by one-

Some valid points
Dear Editor,
This is in response to the 25 June news-
I would like to place some points in contradiction to the statement made by the Home Minister. Tanga Byaling has clearly stated that the seven point charter of demands made by AAPSU is not at all valid because they are the daily routines of government work.
But at least three point raised by AAPSU are valid and genuine; early release of stipends, uninterrupted supply of drinking water &power.
Dear minister should let us know why many students have not yet received their stipends if these are the daily routines of government works.
For the last few years students are not getting their stipends on time & many has received only half of their stipends.
Why towns in the state are facing shortages of potable water & power crisis? These are the daily problems every citizens of our state are going through. There are so many villages who have not yet received electricity connection. If these are your daily government works, such huge problems should have been solved earlier.
Hence, I would like to request our state government to concentrate on overall and rapid development of the state.
